No, not a Jedi Gambit Issue today. Today I felt like doing something a little different and bring out my more comical side to give you:
Race / Class Combinations That Will Never See The Digital Light Of Day:
Whenever a new MMO comes out, playable races and the class options each has available is always a hotly debated topic. People are always eager to see what strange new races we’ll get. For fantasy based MMOs, it’s usually a variation of Tolkien’s Middle Earth with Humans, Elves, and Dwarves, but most will toss in their own addition to the genre such as WoW’s Tauren, RIFT’s Bahmi, or Guild Wars 2’s Asura.
When I look to Star Wars: The Old Republic, I see a vast goldmine of potential races to choose from. Just looking at the Mos Eisley Cantina scene alone in A New Hope brings to light several recognizable and iconic Star Wars aliens.
But after seeing the speculation from hints and beta footage (except cyborg of course) and what can be gleaned from the official SW:TOR Holonet, I’m left to wonder if Bioware is just skimming the surface?
With all the potential aliens in the Star Wars universe, it seems that only the most humanoid-like have been chosen. We’ve got your standard bipedal hominids – two feet, two arms, standard hominid face with some slight variations. But frankly, if I wanted to play just a human, I would have just looked to Star Trek. Sure you’ve got some distinguishable differences like the Twi’lek’s lekku or the Pureblood Sith’s knobby bits, but what about something strikingly different? A race that when it’s silhouette is compared to other races is immediately recognizable.
What about Rodians, or Ithorians, or even Jawas? Something so immediately recognizable to Star Wars, but so different to humans? I can understand that a race so uniquely different would cause some issues with equipment, armor, and clothing, but it’s worth it in my opinion. Rather than just a sea of human-like MMO avatars running around, it would be nice to see some variances every now and then…
And don’t get me wrong. I’m just speculating and wishing for more of this wonderful universe that Bioware will be creating for us. I do understand that we haven’t seen an entirely official and I do realize Bioware still reserves the right to surprise us on the release of the game. And if we don’t get freaky aliens on release, who’s to say they won’t be released in an update or an expansion? Bioware could be holding some cards in their hand to dangle in front of us as incentive to keep playing.
In the end, nothing is carved in stone until that game is out on the shelf and we are happily playing it like Star Wars crack addicts!
Personally, I’ve still keeping my hopes to play a Jawa Bounty Hunter. 😉
